All about the book

Ayo's Money Jar

Ayodele (Ayo) is a curious little boy growing up in a multicultural family. When Ayo helps his Mama and Daddy around the house, he gains way more than he bargained for and learns a lasting lesson about money management.

Ayo’s Money Jar is the first book in our series for children ages 2-6 called $mart¢hoiceNation (SCN) Kids. This is the second edition of the Ayo’s Money Jar book. This edition features beautiful original artwork from Nigerian visual artist and painter, Aniekan Udofia. This version of the book also explores the multicultural heritage of the book’s main character, Ayo.

Each SmartChoiceNation book is written as a conversation guide that covers a specific financial education concept. In addition to the story, the book includes suggested family activities and a glossary of terms to reinforce the learning process. Ayo’s Money Jar focuses on money management, and explores the Give,Grow,Go (3Gs) concept, a SCN money management rule of thumb for children:

  • GiveA portion of a child’s allowance should be shared with those who are less fortunate.

  • Grow A portion of a child’s allowance should be saved, so that it can grow or increase over time.

  • Go: A portion of a child’s allowance should be spent on or go toward those items that a child desires

The series has been developed to help teach children critical money lessons. The series is aligned with the Jump$tart Coalition’s National Standards for K-12 Personal Finance Education.
